I’d like to invite you to participate in a creative project called “Clouds of the World”.

The idea is simple: to show the diversity of ever changing colors (and colours!) and shapes of the moving droplets of water in the sky — the clouds. They are as diverse as the places we live in. From California to New York, from Australia to Canada, from India to Siberia. They are always moving, always changing — every instant for the last few million years. And they probably will …

I am collecting short time lapse videos (15-20 seconds of the result) of the clouds from around the world, without anything else in view. These fragments will be compiled into a series of clips with the background music from my new (yet unfinished) instrumental album “In The Air”. Still photos will not serve the purpose. Suitable time lapse speed is from 1:6X to 1:20X, and the video quality of the phone is enough. See more details below.

The clips will be published on YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Instagram, with the names of the places and contributors (indeed, only if you are OK with it). Enough politics, money, scary stories, scandals, etc. in the info space. Let everyone see the beauty and diversity of the world above us.

With many thanks in advance,
Michael Pastushkov

PS: SHARE IF YOU CARE

WHAT DO YOU NEED?:

If you see clouds above your head worth looking at, and you have 15-20 minutes:

Turn your phone to the TIME LAPSE mode, preferably with the 1:10x speed, with each frame shot every 10 seconds (from 1:6x to 1:20X is still good);

Place your phone on a flat surface with the camera facing up, or put it on a tripod if you have one handy, the phone doesn’t have to face straight up, the best view can be to the side. Make sure there’s no other objects in the view, at least not in the center. I can cut off the corners later;

Wait for 15 minutes or so. The more the better! Clouds are always moving, always changing, and the best view can be just a few minutes away.

Done! Pick up the phone, turn off the filming and share your video with me via email michael@pastushkov.com or by any other means (Facebook, etc). Please indicate the pace the video was filmed and your name or nickname if you like. Find more instructions below.

Note 1: Don’t forget to clean the camera lens. Clouds are unique and unpredictable. It’s would be silly to realize the most beautiful shapes and colors of the sky are blurry in the video;

Note 2: Don’t go too far from your phone! Not everyone understands the creative nature of our universe, not to mention respect of the individual property rights. In some environments your phone can simply “walk away” if left unattended;

Note 3: Don’t overheat your phone! However, most if not all models will automatically switch off if the temperature goes up, with no damage to the device. But the filming would stop.

IF YOU HAVE ANDROID:

You are lucky! Everything is super-easy for you.

Turn on the Camera app, just like when you make photos. Switch to Video and then choose TIME LAPSE right to the normal video. Then, adjust the speed to 1:10X. Some models don’t have the 1:10X option. Please choose the closest one, for example 1:6X. Then just start filming.

IF YOU HAVE IPHONE:

You are even more lucky than Android users. Everything is so super-easy that you can’t even change the TIME LAPSE speed. Start the Camera app as when you make regular photos, switch to Video mode and then to TIME LAPSE. Leave the speed as it is (1:6X) and start filming.

ALMOST DONE!

Right after you start filming, place your phone on a flat surface or tripod with the camera facing up. Leave it there for 10-15 minutes (the more the better!). Don’t forget to pick up the phone, turn off the filming and share your video with me via email michael@pastushkov.com or by any other means (Facebook, etc).
